Fast 8 marks the first Fast and Furious movie without lead actor and real-life car enthusiast Paul Walker. It was a sad and tearful goodbye to him when Furious 7 made a tribute to the actor at the end of the film.
No one really knows how Fast 8 will perform without Brian O’Connor in it. The famous duo of Brian and Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto has always been the central part of the movie franchise. Moving forward without Paul Walker is like the departure of the film series from its street racing background. Both are part of the Fast and Furious DNA, but are things the franchise has to let go off at some point.
There were previous reports that only Paul Walker will not be in Fast 8 and not his character Brian O’Connor. Some people say that Paul’s brother will again act as Brian in the upcoming film. However, neither a confirmation nor any kind of statement to support this speculation have ever been made known. And as a respect to Paul Walker and what he did to the character, it is best to leave it as is and make Brian’s life a peaceful one in a distant shore.
His death and absence in Fast 8 have been tough for the family that was created on set. Michelle Rodriguez also said that among the cast members, it was Paul who loved the genre and the lifestyle the most. His conviction to it made the Fast and the Furious movie franchise what it is today. And that is also why it was devastating (and eerie to say the least) that Paul died in a tragic car accident.
The cause was believed to be the inappropriate speed for the condition but some supercar enthusiasts also said that the tires were probably the biggest culprit. The tires used in the supercar was its original tires which have been at that time, nine years. Although it was an untimely death, at least he died doing what he loves so really, it is not as tragic as some deaths.
Going back to Fast 8, it is not only Paul Walker’s character not coming back for the next installment. According to Cinemablend, Jordana Brewster’s character Mia Toretto is also not in it. Jordana confirmed that Fast 8 is done filming and she is not it in “so far.” Whatever the “so far” means is not known but considering that the filming is done, it seems she is not taking part in it. It does make sense because her character has always been tied to Paul Walker’s Brian.
Fast 8 is scheduled to hit the theaters on April 14, 2017.
